Frequently Asked Questions

How to clean a green swimming pool?

Recommendation is to contact BW Luxury Pools for a once off clean up, should you choose to do this yourself then you should note the following. A green pool is usually caused by Algae build up from plant spores that spread with temperature, debris and sun. Usually caused from low chlorine and high PH (which you'll need to add pool acid to reduce). But we cant work blindly so you'll need to test your water to determine chlorine content, PH and alkalinity.

Step 1: add pool acid, if PH is high, I dilute the acid in a bucket first and then pour around the pool.

Step 2: Hand vacuum the pools and remove as much debris from the pool as possible.

Step 3: Wait at least two hours from placing pool acid before adding chlorine (I recommend HTH but personal preference) 1 scoop per 10,000 liters of water.

Step 4: Re-connect your pool vacuum and run system overnight.

Alternatively you can shock you pool in step 3.

Note, if dirt is been returned from the pool filter, you may need to change your filter sand.

How do you vacuum a swimming pool?

Recommendation is to contact BW Luxury Pools for a once off clean up, should you choose to do this yourself then you should note the following. You will need to purchase a aluminium pole and a vacuum brush. Switch off the pump for around two days to allow all debris to settle on the floor of your pool. Simply remove your pool vacuum from the pool, disconnect the vacuum from the pipes and connect the pipe to the vacuum brush. Once Connected, place your pool on backwash and start to hand vacuuming you pool. I usually start with the steps and then move along the width of the pool in straight lines making sure not to miss any spot, repeat this action until clean. Once done re-connect your pool vacuum, place your system on filter and operate your pool normally again. Your pool may be cloudy this will clean once your creepy in operating.

How to get swimming pool water clear?

Contact BW Luxury Pools for a monthly maintenance contract, if you choose to do it yourself unclear water can be caused by the following.

1. Dirty filter medium: this is easy to detect by simply looking at the water returning to your pool, if it looks like a cloudy or dirty, your filter medium will need to be cleaned. This can be done with a simple backwash an open backwash or replacing the filter medium.

2. Debris and Dirt: this can be corrected with a hand vacuum, removing debris and leaves with a net and brushing the side walls.

3. Pump is not running long enough: your pump needs to run long enough daily to turn around the water in the pool twice. This is usually done within two hours however if water is unclear then pump run time may need to be extended.

4. PH and chemicals may be unbalance, sometimes adding too much chemicals may cloud your pool in which case you will need to test and balance the water.

5. Dust or sand in pool: in which case add some chlorine, leave pump off, let the dust settle to the floor and hand vacuum.

Setting of an analogue pump timer is simpler that it seams, the arrow on the unit represents the current time, so turn the center dial to the current time, once time is set push all the needles inwards. Final action is to move the needles outwards for the time that you want your pump to run for.
